Q 1- If Sardar Preetpal Singh's taxi is 14 years old and has a fuel efficiency of 12 km/litre of fuel, find his profit in a run from Howrah Station to Park Street (a distance of 7 km) if the stoppage time is 8 minutes. (Assume he owns the taxi)
(a) 32.25 rs (b) 40.85 rs (C) 34.25 rs (d) 42.85 rs
Solution :- Meter reading for first 2 kms is fixed at 10 rs.
For additional kms the meter reading changes by 5 rs.
If taxi is boarded and it doesn't move, meter reading for first 10 mins is fixed at 10rs.
For additional mins the meter reading changes by 1 rs.
Amount of distance traveled = For first 2 kms + For rest of the kms
= 10 + 25
= 35 rs.
Meter reading = Amount of time waited + Amount of distance traveled
= 8 + 35
= 43 rs.
Customer pays 20% over meter reading.
Amount Customer paid = 43*1.2
= 51.6
Cost of running = Fuel efficiency
= 7*1.25 (For 7 kms and petrol rate 15 rs/litre)
= 8.75 (petrol rs 1.25 rs/kms)
Profit = 51.6 - 8.75
= 42.85 rs.
Hence , (d) 42.85

ReplyDeletehow is the fuel efficiency 7*1.25,how is the value 1.25 derived?
ReplyDelete12km covered with 1 litre (15 rs). hence for 7km it should be 7 *(15/12) which is 7 * 1.25
Delete15rs - 12 km then
Delete? rs - 7 km do cross multiplication
Why depreciation price is not added?
ReplyDeleteDepreciation is charged only for the first 10 years.
ReplyDeleteWhy are we taking price of time waited to be 8 when the first 10 minutes waiting time is fixed at ₹10.
ReplyDeleteBecause it is applied only when taxi is boarded and waiting at the same place for other to arrive it seems
DeleteBut still it's written every additional minute cost 1 more so from the word additional we can still conclude that it's talking about 10rs as fixed for first 10 mins. Explain this
DeleteWhere is the 1.2 that we multiplied with meter reading coming from ? It's said 20% na , we would have multiplied 1/5 there
ReplyDeleteAs it is 20% more it should be understood as some value(X) and 20% more that value.
ReplyDeleteX and 20%(X)=1/5x
(i.e X+X/5= X(1+1/5)= X(6/5)=X(1.2)
thank you
